17 Ways To Lose Weight Without Changing Your Schedule

1. Don’t skip breakfast.

Don't skip breakfast.
Don’t skip breakfast. It is important to start up your metabolism. Hunger sets in long before it’s time for lunch, so those who haven’t had breakfast often reach for snacks that are high in fat or sugar.

25 Weight Loss Tips for a Fit & Healthy Body

25 Weight Loss Tips for a Fit & Healthy Body

1. Don’t Sugar Coat Your Current State. Come to terms with how bad you’ve let yourself get, and make a promise never to return to where you’re at. It’s OK to be unhappy about the way you look, as long as you channel that energy into positive changes.

2. Take on a Weight Loss Challenge. 90 days is the length of most challenges these days, but you can also find 30 and 60 day ones as well. What a challenge does is gets you to go hard out for a finite amount of time, so you can wrap your head around it. Just be sure to have a plan for when the challenge is finished.

3. Take Mandatory Me Time. If you’re always providing for others you won’t have the time needed to focus on your weight loss and fitness goals. Be sure to schedule some alone time to collect your thoughts.

4. Why Not Live Up to Your Full Potential? Larry Winget says that the human race is the only living thing in the universe that chooses not to live to its fullest potential. The fit and healthy you is possible, so why not go for it!

5. You Can’t Get It Wrong. Many dieters think they’ve got to get it just right in order to be successful. But trying and failing is better than not trying at all. Every step you take in the right direction is helping, and is better than a step in the wrong direction.

6. Avoid Toxic People. You’ll likely find that there are some people in your life that seem to bring you down, especially when they see you start to change for the better. It’s best to avoid them if at all possible, and re-evaluate your relationship with them.

7. Turn Up the Love. Dieting can put you in a state of self-loathing and grumpiness if you let it, but this is actually detrimental to your overall well-being. Show some love for yourself and be grateful for what you have and your efforts will be more effective.

8. Stop Changing the Formula. A true fitness professional has dedicated themselves to getting other in excellent condition. Follow their advice and stop trying to add your own ideas or methods, or twisting it up from what works.

9. Wake Up Early. If you go to bed early enough, you can wake up early and still get your 8 hours. You’ll also be allowing your body to flush out toxins by emptying your bladder and evacuating your bowels at the optimal time of day.

10. Go to Bed Early. You set up the next day by how well you sleep the night before. If you’re staying up late into the night you’re making it more likely that you’ll start the day off on the wrong foot. Plus your organs and systems need sleep in order to function at their best.

11. Take a Longer View. We all want to lose weight like yesterday, but it took awhile for you to get to this point, and it’s going to take some time to get yourself back to good. Be patient and keep the bigger picture in mind.

12. Meditate and Use Visual Imagery. Rather than focusing on how hungry you are or on the things you’re giving up, spend time clearing your head and picturing yourself the way you want to be.

13. Take a Pass on the Latest Craze. Once you step back from the merry-go-round of the latest trends you can see how silly they are. Choose a solid program to follow and stick with it.

14. Ready, Fire, Aim! Don’t sit around waiting for the perfect strategy to come by, just get started doing something. The interesting thing is that once you start down the road to weight loss, the answers you need will come to you effortlessly.

15. Pick a Guru, Any Guru. The problem is that there are so many gurus out there, many saying the same things, and others saying everyone else has it wrong, that it can stall your start. Pick the one that resonates most with you and go with what they say, at least until you reach your target.

16. Make More Money. It seems odd that money is connected to weight loss, but many people find that they need to start buying new clothes, eating better food, and getting more active. That costs money, and a lack of it can inhibit your progress.

17. Buy a New Pair of Pants. Buy a pair of pants in the size you want to be. But be careful to use them as a motivating factor as you near your goal, and not a demotivator as you struggle to get into them.

18. Learn to Chillax. One characteristic that many dieters seem to share is that they get antsy and feel like they should always be doing something, because it’s being lazy that made them fat. But you have to learn to take some time to just relax and let your mind and body rest, especially now when you are making so many changes.

19. Eat a Light Dinner. Your body is starting to slow down at this time, and this includes your digestive power. Try to avoid a heavy meal and keep in mind that meats take a long time to digest, so are best avoided later in the day.

20. Use Sea Salt Instead of Regular Salt. All of the nasty stuff that industrial grade salt is blamed for is not true for sea salt. In fact sea salt can help the body absorb and utilize the water that you drink.

21. Cut Back or Cut Out Alcohol. Alcohol not only contains a lot of calories, it’s also toxic to the liver, and the liver has a big role to play on making sure your colon, heart, and other organs are working in proper order.

22. Get a Few Wins Under Your Belt. If you’re coming off a long string of dieting losses, try setting a few weight loss goals that you are pretty sure you can achieve. This will boost your confidence in your abilities, and allow you to go after bigger goals down the road.

23. Simplify the Process. Apply the 80/20 principle to your current weight loss efforts. Find the 20% of things that are producing 80% of your results and do more of those things. Considering cutting down on or eliminating unfruitful actions.

24. Research Your Local Area. Scour your local area for exercise facilities, basketball, tennis, and racquetball courts, saunas, swimming pools, yoga classes, and nutritionists. That way you’ll have a go-to list of places to help you along your journey.

25. Fly Like Peter Pan. When Peter Pan had to learn to fly it was suggested that he hold just one happy thought in order to move the process along. That same wisdom can be applied to your current situation. Think happy thoughts while you’re trying to lose weight, and your efforts will be multiplied.

25 Easy Ways to Lose Weight Fast

You know the drill when it comes to losing weight - take in fewer calories, burn more calories. But you also know that most diets and quick weight-loss plans have about as much substance as a politician's campaign pledges. Here are more than 25 easy ways for you to finally lose the weight.

1) Have a 300-calorie breakfast
I used to skip breakfast, but now I never go without. I always eat about 300 calories of a healthy mix of protein and whole grains. My go-to meal: a sandwich with natural peanut butter and apple butter. It keeps my hunger down so I snack less throughout the day. In a little over a year, I've shed 65 pounds.

2) Carry a palm-size notebook everywhere you go for one week.
Write down every single morsel that enters your lips—even water. Studies have found that people who maintain food diaries wind up eating about 15 percent less food than those who don’t.

3) Skip the salty aisle
I reached my goal weight after I stopped routinely buying snacks at the grocery store. If I wanted a bag of chips or a candy bar, I had to walk to the store to get it. That inconvenience usually made me ignore my cravings.

4) Walk for 45 minutes a day.
The reason we’re suggesting 45 minutes instead of the typical 30 is that a Duke University study found that while 30 minutes of daily walking is enough to prevent weight gain in most relatively sedentary people, exercise beyond 30 minutes results in weight and fat loss. Burning an additional 300 calories a day with three miles of brisk walking (45 minutes should do it) could help you lose 30 pounds in a year without even changing how much you’re eating.

5) Get fit in five
I try to fit in small bouts of exercise whenever possible, like doing jumping jacks or crunches during television commercials or dancing while washing dishes. This burns extra calories and keeps me from mindlessly munching in front of the TV. Now my clothes fit way better, and I’m more toned than ever.

6) Find an online weight-loss buddy.
A University of Vermont study found that online weight-loss buddies help you keep the weight off. The researchers followed volunteers for 18 months. Those assigned to an Internet-based weight maintenance program sustained their weight loss better than those who met face-to-face in a support group.

7) Kick the habit
I quit smoking, and right away joined a gym and started working out with a personal trainer. There was no way I could exercise and feel healthy if I kept lighting up. I've already dropped 37 pounds in three months!

8) Downsize your dinner plates.
Studies find that the less food put in front of you, the less food you’ll eat. Conversely, the more food in front of you, the more you’ll eat — regardless of how hungry you are. So instead of using regular dinner plates that range these days from 10-14 inches (making them look forlornly empty if they’re not heaped with food), serve your main course on salad plates (about 7-9 inches wide). The same goes for liquids. Instead of 16-ounce glasses and oversized coffee mugs, return to the old days of 8-ounce glasses and 6-ounce coffee cups.

9) Switch to ordinary coffee.
Fancy coffee drinks from trendy coffee joints often pack several hundred calories, thanks to whole milk, whipped cream, sugar, and sugary syrups. A cup of regular coffee with skim milk has just a small fraction of those calories. And when brewed with good beans, it tastes just as great.

10) Nix nighttime eating
Each time I needed to lose the baby weight, I stopped eating after 6:30 p.m. five nights a week. The other two evenings were reserved for nights out. Most of what I'd eat at night was junk food anyway, so it took only two months to get my pre-baby body back.

11) Eat 90 percent of your meals at home.
You’re more likely to eat more—and eat more high-fat, high-calorie foods—when you eat out than when you eat at home. Restaurants today serve such large portions that many have switched to larger plates and tables to accommodate them!

12) Eat slowly and calmly.
Put your fork or spoon down between every bite. Sip water frequently. Intersperse your eating with stories for your dining partner of the amusing things that happened during your day. Your brain lags your stomach by about 20 minutes when it comes to satiety (fullness) signals. If you eat slowly enough, your brain will catch up to tell you that you are no longer in need of food.

13) State the positive.
You’ve heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Well, if you keep focusing on things you can’t do, like resisting junk food or getting out the door for a daily walk, chances are you won’t do them. Instead (whether you believe it or not) repeat positive thoughts to yourself. “I can lose weight.” “I will get out for my walk today.” “I know I can resist the pastry cart after dinner.” Repeat these phrases like a mantra all day long. Before too long, they will become their own self-fulfilling prophecy.

14) Healthy up your happy hour
After work, my colleagues and I always grabbed dinner—and it was usually deep-fried. Then we changed things up. Instead of nights out, we started walking and running around a local track. A year later, I’m down 40 pounds.

15) Spend 10 minutes a day walking up and down stairs.
The Centers for Disease Control says that’s all it takes to help you shed as much as 10 pounds a year (assuming you don’t start eating more).

16) Eat equal portions of vegetables and grains at dinner.
A cup of cooked rice or pasta has about 200 calories, whereas a cup of cooked veggies doles out a mere 50 calories, on average, says Joan Salge Blake, R.D., clinical assistant professor of nutrition at Boston University’s Sargent College. To avoid a grain calorie overload, eat a 1:1 ratio of grains to veggies. The high-fiber veggies will help satisfy your hunger before you overeat the grains.

17) Wash something thoroughly once a week
—a floor, a couple of windows, the shower stall, bathroom tile, or your car. A 150-pound person who dons rubber gloves and exerts some elbow grease will burn about four calories for every minute spent cleaning, says Blake. Scrub for 30 minutes and you could work off approximately 120 calories, the same number in a half-cup of vanilla frozen yogurt. And your surroundings will sparkle!

18) Pile on the veggies
By adding vegetables to the foods I love—like eating pizza topped with arugula and green peppers instead of pepperoni—I became so full so quickly that I no longer had room to eat things like chips or super-rich desserts. I said good-bye to four dress sizes!

19) Switch from regular milk to 2%.
If you already drink 2%, go down another notch to 1% or skim milk. Each step downward cuts the calories by about 20 percent. Once you train your taste buds to enjoy skim milk, you’ll have cut the calories in the whole milk by about half and trimmed the fat by more than 95 percent.

20) Save room for your dessert
I budget for the treats I love. By eating healthy snacks like carrots and hummus, I have calories to splurge on a piece of chocolate and glass of wine each night. And I've still managed to lose 20 pounds in three months.

21) Take a walk before dinner.
You’ll do more than burn calories — you’ll cut your appetite. In a study of 10 obese women conducted at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, 20 minutes of walking reduced appetite and increased sensations of fullness as effectively as a light meal.

22) Eat a frozen dinner.
Not just any frozen dinner, but one designed for weight loss. Most of us tend to eat an average of 150 percent more calories in the evening than in the morning. An easy way to keep dinner calories under control is to buy a pre-portioned meal. Just make sure that it contains only one serving. If it contains two, make sure you share.

23) Watch one less hour of TV.
A study of 76 undergraduate students found the more they watched television, the more often they ate and the more they ate overall. Sacrifice one program (there’s probably one you don’t really want to watch anyway) and go for a walk instead. You’ll have time left over to finish a chore or gaze at the stars.

24) Close out the kitchen after dinner.
Wash all the dishes, wipe down the counters, turn out the light, and, if necessary, tape closed the cabinets and refrigerator. Late-evening eating significantly increases the overall number of calories you eat, a University of Texas study found. Stopping late-night snacking can save 300 or more calories a day, or 31 pounds a year.

25) Pack nutritious snacks.
Snacking once or twice a day helps stave off hunger and keeps your metabolism stoked, but healthy snacks can be pretty darn hard to come by when you’re on the go. Pack up baby carrots or your own trail mix made with nuts, raisins, seeds, and dried fruit.

10 Simple Ways To Eat Less

10 Simple Ways To Eat Less

1) Drink More Water
The more water you drink, the less hungry you’ll feel. Drinking one glass of water right before each meal has been proven to help you eat less and still feel just as satisfied after the meal. Of course, drinking water between meals is a good idea too, because it helps you feel fuller and avoid unnecessary snacking.

2) Eat protein for breakfast
People love to hype breakfast eating as a miracle weight loss cure, but only breakfasts high in protein have been proven to suppress appetite and reduce subsequent eating throughout the day. Skip the waffles and head to the omelet station instead.

3) Exercise
Studies have shown that exercise releases a flood of hormones that suppress your appetite, while also reducing the production of other hormones that stimulate appetite.  Even better, a good workout releases stress and floods your brain with feel-good endorphins that boost your mood, calm anxiety, and ease feelings of depression; things that could otherwise be triggers for emotional eating.

4) Divide the food on your plate
Sometimes, the classic restaurant-eating advice to get a to-go container right away and pack half your meal before you begin to eat seems out of place—especially if you're out for a fancy meal or dining with new friends. To avoid overeating, simply mark off what you'll eat and what you'll save for later—i.e., cut off the portion of meat you'll have now, then cut it into bite-size pieces as the meal progresses. Divide that giant mountain of rice into a little "now" pile and a bigger "take home" pile. You can do this without fanfare, with a few sweeps of your knife or fork. Once you've eaten your 'now' portions, fold your napkin and put your silverware on your plate.

5) Eat three meals a day
I bet you thought eating many small meals was better than eating three bigger ones throughout the day, but the data tells us otherwise. Though skipping meals can make controlling your appetite more difficult, eating more than three meals a day has not been shown to have any benefit, and may even be worse for appetite control.

6) Eat More Frequently
A great way to eat less overall is to spread your daily calorie intake over five or six small meals rather than eating two or three large meals.  It will feel like you are eating more, but you will actually be eating less and taking in fewer calories than it seems.

7) Don’t eat from the package
Your stomach can’t count. When you can’t see how much you’re eating you’re more than a little likely to lose track and consume double or even triple the amount you’d eat if you took the time to serve yourself a proper portion. Use a plate, or a bowl, or even a napkin, just make sure you get a good visual of everything you’re going to eat before taking your first bite.

8) Eat Slowly
Eating quickly virtually guarantees that you’ll eat more because your stomach doesn’t have time to let you know it’s had enough.  When you eat slowly, taking at least 20 minutes to eat a meal, you can feel the progression from hungry to satisfied much more easily.

9) Keep baby carrots nearby while cooking
Allow yourself only tiny tastes of your stove-top or oven-ready creations, then crunch on baby carrots when you feel the need to chew on something. Or, have a glass of ice water on hand.

10) Keep Your Hands Busy
Nighttime eating while watching television is a challenge for many people.  Even if they kept their eating under control all day long, sitting in a comfortable chair or sofa and turning on their favorite television shows is often a trigger to start munching.  Keeping your hands busy is a good way to break this habit.  Activities like knitting, crocheting, needlework, painting, or even playing solitaire can help take the edge off.  If those don’t appeal to you, try playing a small hand-held game, building a toy model, or working on a puzzle.

15 Best Ways to Lose 5 Pounds

15 Best Ways to Lose 5 Pounds

1) Drink More Water
Research indicates that chugging H2O curbs appetites. In fact, in one study by the American Chemical Society, dieters who drank water three times a day before meals over 12 weeks shed about 5 pounds more than those who did not boost their water intake. Water’s benefits don’t stop there: Agua also keeps you energized, so you’ll have the vigor needed to burn additional calories in the gym, on the tennis court, or wherever the day takes you. “Even being slightly dehydrated can lead to feeling fatigued,” says personal trainer Jim White, RD, owner of Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios in Virginia Beach, VA. And soda fiends out there can chop more than 200 calories from their diets by replacing a 20-ounce bottle of nondiet cola with some refreshing H2O.

2) Cut The Fat
Cutting down on the amount of fat you eat will also help you lose 5 pounds fast, but I don’t mean just avoiding fatty fast foods and the like. You can also stay away from salad dressings and instead use oil and vinegar, or use balsamic vinegar to dilute a tablespoon of your favorite dressing.

3) Avoid Temptation
As I mentioned, making smart choices is one of the best ways to lose 5 pounds. You need to stay away from the foods that really tempt you. If you adore Hot Pockets or frozen pizzas, it will be better to keep your distance from them. There are certain things you can simply moderate, but some foods should just be avoided altogether.

4) Getting More Active Is The Best Ways to Lose 5 Pounds
You simply can't lose weight without exercising. Shedding 5 pounds isn't a lot, but even that amount requires some activity. If you simply don't have time for the gym or regular workouts, you can still introduce more activity into your daily life. Just take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away from your destination so you have to walk, and try walking to some of your errands rather than driving.

5) Choose Healthy Hobbies
There are lots of hobbies and activities you can do each day that will ultimately help you lose weight. You won’t be thinking about it, however, and that can make it easier. Doing housework isn’t exactly a hobby, but you burn plenty of calories just by mopping up, making dinner, or running the vacuuming. You can start a garden, which will both keep you active and provide you with healthy foods. You can even take up video games if you turn to the kinds of games that encourage full body movement.

6) Cut Down on Added Sugars
On average, Americans consume 475 calories of added sugars daily, estimates Rachel Johnson, RD, PhD, a professor of nutrition at the University of Vermont. You, too, can do the math. Eliminating added sugars could save you thousands of calories in a week. In fact, a study review published in the journal Public Health Nutrition found that the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages contributed to 20% of weight gain between 1977 and 2007. Other offenders included cookies, cakes, doughnuts, and dairy desserts. To trim hundreds of empty calories from your daily diet, check nutrition labels. “Look for anything that ends in the letters "ose,” the biochemical ending for sugars, such as sucrose, dextrose, fructose, and maltose, and the word syrup,” Johnson says. If it’s sweetened, skip it.

7) Remember To Eat Breakfast
I never eat breakfast; most of the people I know skip this highly important meal. Even though you’re eating, having breakfast is still one of the most fantastic, effective ways to lose 5 pounds. It keeps your metabolism going strong, it gives you the energy you need to get through the day, and it actually stops you from overeating. If you know what it’s like to skip breakfast and end up starving at lunch, you understand why.

8) Use an App
15 Best Ways to Lose 5 Pounds

Still looking for ways to lose 5 pounds fast? There’s an app for that! No, really, there is. There are food journaling apps, calorie-counting apps, encouragement apps… you have a weight loss need, and there really is an app for that! In fact, we’re working on one right now… stay tuned!

9) Control Portion Sizes
It's not practical or realistic to weigh and measure everything you eat. So pick one day a week to pull out the scale and measuring cups and spoons to see if you're getting the proper portions.

"Our eyes grow with time," says diabetes educator Hope Warshaw. "It's easy to rationalize: But it's just a little more." To fine-tune your skills to eat proper portions, keep essential weighing and measuring tools on the countertop -- a food scale that accurately weighs meats, fruits, and starches; measuring cups for starches, vegetables, and dairy items; and measuring spoons for fats, oils, salad dressings, and more.

10) Tke Your Time
When you're in a hurry, you may consume more calories than your body really needs. Try to slow down while you eat and really enjoy your food! "Chew 20 times before you swallow," Torres says. "The more broken down the food is before it reaches the stomach, the easier it is for the stomach to finish breaking it down and the more nutrients you get."

11) Move Throughout the Day
Along with modified eating, incorporate physical activity into your lifestyle. Move throughout the day. Stretch while you make breakfast. Take the stairs at the office. Go for a stroll during your lunch break. It's a myth that you need to sit to digest your food, says professor Jeff Mechanick.

You should get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Dietary Guidelines. Many adults need up to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on most days to prevent unhealthy weight gain. Those who have lost weight may need 60-90 minutes of daily activity to avoid regaining the weight.

12) Downsize Your Dinnerware
The more food you put in front of you, the more you're likely to eat, according to research by Brian Wansink, Ph.D., professor of marketing at Cornell University and director of the school's Food and Brand Lab. So serve meals on small dinner plates (7-inch diameter) and use tall, narrow 4-ounce glasses for juice and other caloric drinks. Your brain will reset its expectations of a normal portion size, and you'll find yourself feeling satisfied with less food.

13) Weight Bearing Exercises
If you’re not already doing it, make sure you’re getting 30 minutes of weight-bearing exercise 4 times a week. Feel free to combine this with your cardio, in the form of running, jogging, walking… or working on the elliptical.

14) Don't Let Yourself Get Too Hungry
"Don't skip meals," says nutritionist Marisa Moore. "Be sure you eat regularly to avoid major blood sugar fluctuations that can lead to a ravenous attack on the refrigerator."

Be prepared with snacks when you're on the go. Carry a piece of fruit, crackers, string cheese, or yogurt. Tucking away something ahead of time will keep you from being tempted by fast food or vending machines.

15) Take a Cass
Most gyms and fitness centers offer a variety of healthy eating and fitness classes, from cooking to Zumba and everything in between. Get eth girls together, or go it alone — find something that interests you and take a class!

If you’ve been adhering to a strict healthy eating and fitness plan for a while but are failing to see the results, it may be time take a look at what is sabotaging your success. From dieting blunders to physical factors, check out the top 9 reasons why you’re not losing weight.

1) Your diet is not a diet
Perhaps this should be the number one reason but as it is fairly obvious to all, a number 10 spot seemed more appropriate. Perhaps the biggest reason for all diets failing is the fact that they are not diets at all – i.e. those thinking they are making healthy eating choices are in fact doing the mirror opposite. There are dozens of foods and drinks that appear to be excellent choices for dieters, though in fact pack more of a calorie wallop than bears thinking about. From certain fruits to smoothies to pasta to cereals to nuts and countless others, so many diets never even get off the ground for the simple reason that they are not diets at all.

2) You’re neglecting Sleep
Keeping active and avoiding laziness of course contributes hugely to weight loss, but on the other hand there is nothing more detrimental than overdoing it and neglecting sleep. The human body simply cannot do ANYTHING at all to its maximum potential without a regular and steady sleep pattern – which includes losing weight. A tired and worn out body will not only have trouble processing calories, but will instinctively begin to store extra fat reserves to cope with the demand of the exhausting lifestyle.

3) You’re actually bulking up
The term ‘losing weight’ gets thrown around a little too easily when it comes to dieting, as some find themselves ending up with the body of their dreams without every losing a single pound. The reason for this is the simple fact that muscle weighs far more than fat, therefore if a diet and exercise routing is successfully burning fat reserves at the same time as building muscle, the overall weight of the body may not go down at all.It is for this reason that obsessing exclusively over the bathroom scales is a little on the unwise side when looking to shed excess body fat.

4) You aren’t eating enough
If cutting down on fat and calories to a modest extent can help weight loss then surely cutting down on them to a massive extent would be even better, right? Unfortunately not, as one of the main reasons millions every day face the reality of not losing any weight is because they are in fact not eating enough. When the body is deprived of much needed fuel, it instinctively goes into something of a ‘starvation’ mode where existing fat reserves are held onto as long as possible and all new calories and fat introduced are stored. Indeed, under-eating often has the potential to be more dangerous than overeating.

5) You’re putting too much pressure on yourself
There is a marked difference between idealistic goals and realistic goals when it comes to losing weight, with the latter of the two often being the most neglected. Of course, an overnight transformation is exactly what most would opt for given the chance, but as this is impossible in quite literally 100% of examples of sensible diets, losing hope in the short term is really a redundant attitude.
So many diets fail simply because people insist on putting far too much pressure on themselves and set goals they cannot and will not reach.

6) You’re not keeping realistic track
You may think that your each and every move has been tailored and carried out with nothing other than the most angelic eating and exercise plan imaginable in mind, but has it really? Something of an ‘a little bit here, a little bit there’ approach to treats and indulgences may make a dieter think they are making huge cutbacks for the sake of their goals, but it is almost impossible to keep realistic track without vested efforts. If your life is particularly busy or active, try keeping a comprehensive diary for a week of everything eaten and all exercise…and prepare for a big surprise.

7) You’re surrounded by too many temptations
No real-world person has the iron-clad willpower required to resist all temptations when faced with them 24/7, therefore the only way of ruling them out of the equation is to get rid of them altogether. Secret reserves of treats and unhealthy food put away for a rainy day will inevitably come out long before said rainy day ever arrives, therefore lose the temptation and lose the chance of blowing your efforts on a one-night binge.

8) Your exercise regime is garbage
If you have created an exercise regime all by yourself and you do not have any background in health and fitness on a professional level, odds are your routine is fundamentally flawed – perhaps even entirely ineffective. It is simply impossible to benefit from the most sublimely effective exercise plan without some degree of professional advice or involvement – much better than working yourself into an early grave.

9) You’re lying to yourself
“But I am eating healthy, cutting out all treats and exercising my butt off…how can I not be losing weight?!” A question asked millions of times every day with that in most cases deserves as question in return…that being are you really? Cutting back on a couple of indulgences and taking a brisk walk twice a week is certainly an improvement over nothing at all, but will bring little by way of tangible results to say the least. Nevertheless, people the world over convince themselves that these mild to moderate changes will have them looking like a true wonder to behold practically overnight, which is of course quite depressingly impossible.

Top 20 Reasons You Can't Lose Weight

Top 20 Reasons You Can't Lose Weight

1. You're stressed
Stress encourages excess cortisol production, which communicates to the body’s cells that there’s a scarcity of food. The body responds by laying down fat, slowing down metabolism and prompting you to eat more.
Solution: Practise yoga or meditation and take regular “sanity” breaks.

2. Your stomach’s stretched
Make a fist. That’s the size your empty stomach should be. Now consider how much food gets crammed into it every mealtime. Dr Libby Weaver, author of Accidentally Overweight? (Allen & Unwin),says once your stomach’s used to being a certain size, it’s primed to be that way every day. So when you eat less, your gut signals that you’re still hungry.
Solution: Reduce food portions. It’ll take about four days for your stomach to shrink back.

3. You’re drinking too much coffee
Caffeine stimulates the production of adrenalin which can elevate blood sugars. If you’re sitting around, those unused blood sugars can end up stored as body fat.

4. You’re eating five small meals a day like the diet book told you to
Although the theory is that it stokes up your metabolism, there’s evidence this doesn’t work. When put to the test by researchers at Australia’s Newcastle University, the plan didn’t pan out at all for weight loss.
Solution: Eat only when you’re hungry. Chowing down when you don’t feel like it is an insidious diet wrecker.

5. You eat the same old, same old
We require at least 30 different types of food each week to get all the nutrients we need, according to Associate Professor Amanda Sainsbury-Salis, weight loss researcher at Sydney’s Garvan Institute. If your diet is deficient in just one nutrient, your body will push you to eat until you meet that need, she adds.
Solution: Find a new recipe book and ensure you get a good mix of proteins, vegetables, fruit, wholegrains and legumes.

6. Junk foods have affected your brain
Fatty, high-energy, low-nutrient foods change the brain in ways similar to those seen in drug addicts. If you think you need a chocolate fix to feel normal, that’s why, says Sainsbury-Salis.
Solution: Eat nutritionally – you’ll soon stop craving the bad stuff.

7. You’ve just moved in with your partner
This is a danger point for women. They start eating meals that don’t allow for varying content such as pizzas or curries and have the same size portions as their pie-eating partner.
Solution: Put different dishes on the table so people can naturally select the macronutrient and kilojoule content they need. Make sure there are always plenty of salads and vegetables to choose from. Women may also find it helps to eat from a smaller-sized plate, and science backs this.

8. You don’t fidget enough
Researchers have found that extreme fidgeters can burn around 380 calories more per day than couch potatoes – that’s the equivalent of a six-kilometre jog, Turner says.
Solution: Get up from your desk, pace around, jiggle, and walk over to talk to people in the office instead of emailing.

9. You need more fat
Eat carbohydrates and it takes around 20 minutes for the stomach to signal we’ve eaten – by which time we might have consumed too much. Eat fat and protein and the satiety centre of the brain starts receiving signals within five minutes so you’ll feel full quickly, says Weaver.
Solution: Put oily dressings on that salad and eat plenty of lean meats, fish, eggs or tofu.

10. It’s in your genes
Blame your parents: scientists have found that people with certain variations of the “fat mass and obesity-associated gene” have a larger appetite and are significantly heavier than those without.
Solution: Exercise and eat wholesome foods as both lessen the influence of those genes.

11. You’re taking prescription drugs
Some prescription drugs cause weight gain due to their effect on mood, appetite and metabolism. These include many of the new generation of antidepressants, corticosteroids and even some blood pressure medications, according to Professor Garry Egger, co-author of the book Planet Obesity (Allen & Unwin) and a consultant on obesity for the World Health Organisation.
Solution: Check with your doctor if you’re concerned, or simply ask about alternatives to the medication.

12. You’re doing one-speed workouts
Studies from both the University of Guelph in Canada and the University of NSW are among many that have found that injecting bursts of speed into your run or cycle will burn more fat than doing the same distance at one moderate pace.
Solution: Add some intervals to your running route. For example, sprint between lampposts or traffic lights.

13.You’re not lifting weights
Do this to boost fat burning and build muscle, exercise physiologist Joanne Turner says. Every kilo of extra muscle you develop will burn an extra kilo’s worth of fat per year.
Solution: Get a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, pick a weight that has you struggling after eight repetitions and squat, lunge, press-up and pull-up.

14. You’re not eating enough calcium
Calcium has been found to spur weight loss, according to Melanie McGrice, chairperson of the Dietitian Association of Australia Obesity Interest Group. Eating sufficient amounts appears to stifle the desire to eat more while not eating enough seems to spur food intake.
Solution: Include three serves of low-fat dairy products or fortified food such as soy milk in your daily diet.

15. You eat in the dark
There’s evidence that we should eat during daylight hours because in the absence of sunlight our body doesn’t handle energy as efficiently, Professor Katherine Samaras, head of diabetes and obesity clinical studies at the Garvan Institute, says. When sunlight hits our retina the message is transferred to the liver to start metabolisingm fats more effectively.
Solution: Eat your main meal at lunchtime and avoid having dinner late at night.

16. You eat with the TV on
Researchers from the University of Birmingham found that people who eat in front of the TV were less likely to focus on their meal nor remember what they ate and so were more likely to snack later. Scientists from the Baylor College of Medicine report that overweight children ate 50 per cent of their meals while watching TV compared to 35 per cent of normal weight kids.
Solution: Eat meals slowly over 30 minutes at the dinner table.

17. You’re not getting enough sleep
The US Nurses’ Health Study which tracked 68,000 women found that the less sleep women got, the more likely they were to become obese. Lack of sleep influences a number of hormones, Professor Paul Taylor, exercise physiologist and nutritionist, says. Cortisol and ghrelin levels rise which makes you hungry and lay down fat, while leptin, the satiety hormone, goes down.
Solution: Get seven to eight hours shut-eye every night.

18.You wear high heels
Research shows that 60 to 90 minutes of moderate physical activity a day (such as walking) will maintain weight loss. Wearing high heels may deter you from getting up and walking around.
Solution: Go like Carla Bruni – invest in ballet flats or just pack a pair of trainers to make walking easier.

19. You eat on the run
If you leave decisions about what to eat until the last minute, you risk going with whatever’s available.
Solution: Before leaving home in the morning, prepare a range of healthy foods that you enjoy and take them with you.

20. Your house is too hot
Studies show that reducing room temperature from 27 degrees to 22 degrees results in an extra 239 calories burned per day.
Solution: Turn down the heat to increase thermogenesis and make the body work harder.

The Top 5 Food Rules For Weight Loss

The top 5 food rules for weight loss

1) Good protein
To support muscle tissue, you have to gradually increase your protein. In other words, eat more lean meat, chicken, fish or whatever lean vegetarian source you choose. These foods help speed up your metabolism, keep you feeling full and provide important amino acids. Here are examples of good sources of protein.

2) Cut calories
To lose fat, you have to gradually decrease your calories by eating less and cutting out calorific meals and snacks.

3) Tips to boost metabolism
To support your metabolism, gradually replace bad fats with healthy fats. Adding things like olive oil, avocados, nuts, seeds and fish oils to your diet will help speed up your metabolism and lose weight.

4) Choose carbs wisely
To create the right environment for fat loss, you need to gradually decrease your intake of carbohydrates. In other words, eat less sugar and starches, such as processed grains. Eating too much of these foods can wreak havoc on your bloodstream, increasing hormones that lead to fat gain.

5) Dose up on veg
To make sure you're healthy throughout the process, you need to gradually increase the amount of veggies you eat. Try starting to replace your grains with greens. If you do this, you'll be getting more fibre, vitamins and minerals.

5 Tips To Help Jumpstart Your Weight Loss

5 Tips To Help Jumpstart Your Weight Loss

1) Incorporate more home cooked meals into your diet.
This will ensure that what you are consuming is natural, not processed and doesn’t contain any unhealthy items. Aside from the nutritional benefits of cooking your own healthy meals, did you know that cooking can also curb your appetite? Being surrounded by food for an hour or two before you can actually eat it, can curb your appetite. You won’t feel as hungry and as a result, you’ll consume less.

2) You probably hear this often, but here it is once more.
Drink a whole lot of water, especially during meals. It's common knowledge water is healthy for them, but besides its nutritional values, having a lot of water during meals can help decrease the amount of food you consume. You achieve fullness faster by drinking water as well as reduce calorie intake.

3) Try to eat more raw fruits and vegetables.
Raw fruits and vegetables possess the most concentrated vitamins and minerals, but once they’re cooked, a lot of those nutritional values go missing. Therefore the more raw veggies and fruits you consume, the more nutrients our bodies will contain, the fuller you’ll feel and in essence, the less extra calories you’ll digest.

4) Stay away from watching the TV or sitting at the computer for more than 1 to 2 hours at a time.
This tends to encourage you to notice other activities to do that involve more physical movements. Switch on the radio and dance to your favorite tunes, walk your dog around the neighborhood, run to your nearest park, or if you live nearby, walk to the mall. Activities that only require you to sit on your butt can make you forget about the rest of your body’s capacity to move. You must have exercise, mainly because the calories won’t burn themselves.

5) Refrain from shopping for unhealthy snacks and foods.
This action goes hand in hand with the “out of sight, out of mind” idea. If you don’t view unhealthy snacks and food inside your fridge or in the cupboards, then the more unlikely you will need them. And even if you did crave them, then too bad. You don’t have them inside your home. This will help to establish your healthier ways of eating. Keep this up, and you will no longer have a wish for those varieties of food.

9 Easy Ways To Burn Calories

9 easy ways to burn calories

1) Shake your booty
Crank the tunes and get grooving – dancing around your lounge room for 20 minutes will burn the same calories as a 20 gram Kit Kat.

2) Take the stairs
If you have the choice of taking the lift or stairs, go for the latter. Spending five minutes a day walking up stairs burns 227 calories in a week. Crank it up to a jog and you'll smash 425 calories, or the equivalent of two slices of ham and pineapple pizza.

3) Clean the house
Twenty minutes of vigorous vacuuming can burn up to 100 calories, according to nutritionist and personal trainer Catherine Kladakis (www.thenutritionspecialist.com.au). "Put some oomph into your housework by turning up the music," she suggests.

4) Stand proud
Here's some good news for people on their feet all day: you're burning an extra 50 to 60 calories each hour than your sedentary friends. "It's probably the easiest incidental exercise to engage in – at home when watching TV or at the office when on the phone or in meetings," Borushek says.

5) Break the cycle
Next time you need to pick up something from the local shops, get on your bike. A 10-minute cycling trip there and back, three times a week, burns around 408 calories.

6) Wash your car
By washing the car yourself, not only are you saving money, but you'll burn around 105 calories over 30 minutes, which is the same as a chocolate muesli bar.

7) Unleash your inner child
The next time you take your kids to the park, join in the fun. Chasing after your little ones burns about 180 calories in 30 minutes. "That's the equivalent of a Cadbury Flake chocolate bar," Kladakis says.

8) Walk to work
Walking is one of the easiest and simplest ways to fit exercises into your day. Replace your car with your sneakers and you'll burn three or four calories a minute. Do that for 45 minutes and you've earned yourself a regular low-fat ice-cream.

9) Skip the ads
"Get up during TV commercials and skip until your show starts again," Kladakis recommends. "You will burn about 113 calories in the ad breaks of a one hour show." That puts two tubs of chocolate mousse up your sleeve.
